“Conquering” Swiss Moguls
When it comes to extreme sports I know my limits and the extent of my skill. Finding myself finally snowboarding the Swiss Alps made me feel as though I could do anything but at the same time nothing at all.
This mountain was significantly larger and different from what I’m used to. Not once, but stupidly twice, I got on a lift that resulted in one way down that was entirely moguls.
Now in my personal opinion moguls are not enjoyable for anyone, they can’t be, I even refuse to believe pro skiers enjoy them. So when I found myself looking down at these literal bumps in the road yet again, I decided I’ll just go to the side and get down as quickly as I could.
Before I knew it I caught my edge, flew into the air, landed on my butt skillfully, one would say, because my hands braced my fall. Then without time to process, I flew down this slope on my back, feeling every bump without control or sign of stopping. With an attempt to regain control, my board spun around me so that it was dragging behind me and my head now led the way.
By this point, I’ve accepted defeat, it felt as if I was going 40 miles an hour without an ability to brake. I felt like an idiot. I let myself slide as there was nothing I could do but wait til the slope levels. So, naturally, I took in the scenery around me. However, my eyes were drawn to the chairlift full of laughing people above me. So many people just witnessed that whole scene and from what I could tell, thoroughly enjoyed it. To make matters worse, I was wearing rental gear with a rental board, truly making myself a character to the other skiers. Maybe next time I’ll pay attention to the lift’s destination and my inability to conquer moguls.
